Rick Roop - Sr. Portfolio Manager

Rick Roop is Vice President of Development, Sr. Portfolio Manager, a member of the Investment Policy Committee and owner. He has been with the firm since 2001. Rick's early days at DCM saw the September 11, 2001 tragedy and the 2 year-long economic recession that followed 9/11, plus the ".com" bust in the stock market. Fortunately for DCM and for our clients, Rick was well-prepared for shepherding clients successfully through those difficult times.

Rick grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. Through the years, he has consistently demonstrated a commitment to sacrifice, the value of a strong work ethic, and the importance of teamwork that would serve him well later in life. Rick was a sports standout in high school and in 1976 headed to Murray State University to play football.

After earning a Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from MSU in 1980, Rick went on to a successful career in the electric utility industry, working at large coal-fired generating stations. He began his career with the former Southern Indiana Gas & Electric Company, now Vectren, as a Senior Instrumentation Engineer at Alcoa’s Warrick Generating Station. In 1986, Rick moved his family to Terre Haute, Indiana, where he took a position with Hoosier Energy at their 1000MW Merom Generating Station as the Instrument & Electrical Engineer where he was responsible for all electrical systems, process controls and computers.

Entrusted with responsibility for millions of dollars of staff and equipment from early on in his career, Rick rose through a number of positions, ultimately becoming the General Manager of Hoosier Energy's Frank E. Ratts Generating Station in Petersburg, Indiana. During his time at Ratts, Rick earned his MBA in Finance from Indiana State University.

While working for Vectren and Hoosier Energy, Rick learned the value of excellent client service that he now brings to his clients daily. In addition, Rick's education and experience give him a solid foundation of knowledge from which to assess many industrial, technology, & utility industry related businesses.

Rick is an investment adviser representative of Donaldson Capital Management, a Registered Investment Advisor. Over the years, Rick has served as an adjunct professor to three Indiana colleges, teaching math and engineering courses. He currently serves on the Indiana State University Engineering and Technology Advisory Board and is Committee Chair for the Warrick County Young Life Christian ministry for high school youth. Rick is a Deacon, Director of Sunday School programs and Alternate Church Moderator at First Southern Baptist Church in Evansville.

In 2013, Rick was elected to serve as the 2014 President-elect Secretary for the International Society of Automation (www.isa.org). ISA is a nonprofit organization that helps its 30,000 worldwide members and other automation professionals solve difficult technical problems while enhancing their leadership and personal capabilities. He has been a member of this society since 1983, serving in many capacities over the years, most recently as Chairman of ISA’s Investment Committee, overseeing their $27 million reserve investment fund. Rick will serve as Society President in 2015.
Rick lives in Newburgh with wife, Laura, and their daughter, Lauren. Their son, Brandon, daughter-in-law, Leah, and granddaughter, Reagan,  also live in Newburgh.
